Building Speed and Power: Don’t Sweat the Results

There can be many obstacles standing between a pitcher and her maximum speed potential. One of the biggest, I feel, is too strong a focus being placed on throwing strikes from too young an age. In today’s video, I’m going to share some drills that ONLY emphasize power.

      Hi Victor,
Since your comment is the same I’m assuming you’re the YouTube visitor who has been commenting as well. Thanks for viewing our videos!
Unfortunately, it’s not feasible for us to travel to North Carolina to teach two pitchers. If you can get together with a local team or program to organize a large group of girls who would be interested in a clinic, we can consider it.

This won’t help your 7YO, but if your 13YO has pitching experience, we can do a video analysis for her.

Otherwise, I’d suggest visiting http://www.discussfastpitch.com which is a message board. There are people there from all over the country, and if you post that you’re looking for a pitching coach in the NC area, someone may very well be able to help you out. Another option would be to look up a local college showcase travel team, get in touch with the organizer, and ask who teaches their pitchers.

Some advice about selecting a pitching coach: don’t commit until after a lesson or two. Make sure to ask LOTS of questions during the first lesson and make sure the coach can provide good answers that make logical sense to you and your daughters. I would also stay away from coaches who teach finishing with the elbow pointed at the catcher. Whipping the arm is the way to go!
