What Makes YOU Successful?

Fastpitch Power is not about attracting readers; it’s about drafting a team! It’s important to us that we communicate with philosophically like-minded individuals, and possibly change a few opinions along the way. We WILL show you the best drills and exercises, but it is the integrity of our philosophy and coaching style which forms the context of our applications. The purpose of this post is get the right athletes, parents, and coaches on board with Fastpitch Power and get the rest, well, the heck out.

What Makes a Successful Athlete?
Many different physiological and psychological qualities contribute to softball performance. The Performance Pyramid is the best representation of how these foundational capacities stack up to sport skill.

I was introduced to the Performance Pyramid concept by renown physical therapist, Gray Cook. Gray’s Pyramid only had the top three tiers. I have added the bottom tier because optimal physical capacity cannot be reached without psychological and emotional maturity. No exercise, drill, or program will help an athlete if they are not committed to it.

The middle two tiers are the most misguided areas of a softball player’s development. Collectively, these two tiers must be developed SEQUENTIALTAMEOUSLY (not a typo), in order for maximal softball performance to be attained and maintained. These are the areas to which I will focus all of my contributions on FastpitchPower.com.

A Fastpitch Power Pledge
As a team member of Fastpitch Power, you MUST appreciate that performance is multi-factorial. More specifically, development of the softball athlete is not determined by one body part, drill, exercise, tool, or supplement. In regards to strength training and injury prevention, you will respect the body as one interdependent system, whose corners communicate with each other, continuously adjusting and ultimately adapting, affecting everything in between.

“You can’t see the forest for the trees.”

The shop-talk is right around the corner.  If you have a question related to pitching mechanics or physical preparation for pitchers or position players please leave a comment and I will dedicate an entry to your topic.

    Joe,

Greetings. I heard about you from Phil. My daughter Casey is one of his students-she p[lays with the Diamond Dolls 16u. What he has done with her in the past several months is really remarkable. He completely changed her mechanics, with a resulting boost in power and accuracy. he is by far the best coach she has ever workied with, and I am hoping that we will be able to work with him going forward. He suggested that if my daughter wanted to go to the next level, that it was important to focus on conditioning. And he recommended you as a good source to learn how to do this- specifically for pitching. To that end we would like to talk to you about starting Casey on a conditioning regimen. Maybe working with you, and setting up a training regimen for her to use going forward. Let me know how to go about this. Thanks.
