Your New Ab Exercises

This week, I’m posting a catalog of my favorite ab exercises. These are unlike traditional crunches and situps which challenge the core’s ability to flex and extend the spine. These exercises challenge core stability, the ability to maintain proper posture, which is we want to transfer to sports movements. There is NO DOUBT you will feel these working your abs, but don’t expect “the burn”, these will feel differently.

Below the videos, I’ve provided some guidelines for you to follow if you’d like to create a routine for yourself or add these to your current workout.

“Dead Bug” Exercises (pick 1)                 2-3 sets of 8-10 reps
Physioball Plank                                         2-3 sets of :15-:30
Physioball Plank Circles                           2-3 sets of 6-10 circles each way
Cable Core Press Hold                             2-3 sets of 5, :05 holds each set.
Cabbage Patch                                           2-3 sets of 5-6 reps
Standing Rotation                                       2-3 sets of 6-10 reps

    Joe-
My daughter is just coming off a pars stress fracure of the L5 vertebrae. She has been cleared and has had no pain for 3 months. She wants to start pitching again. Th PT has her doing some core exercises. What exercises do you reccommend to help her stregthen her core and hewr hamstring. She is 5′ 7″ and 13 years old. She is also a 3 sport athelete.

Hi Paul, thanks for your comment. Joe isn’t monitoring Fastpitch Power anymore but I highly recommend with any case of injury that your daughter work in person with a qualified professional to insure proper form and the best exercises for her body type and injury history. Always working out with a professional is ideal but just a few sessions to get her started would be ok too.
