    Hey guys

Been pitching fastball now for 20 years and love it! I am always looking at learning and improvement and noticed you guys on you tube. I love the videos and information. I want to be a better pitcher and want to get some more perspective. I can throw a rise ball, drop ball and fast ball. I have been using a knuckle ball as my change for a long time now and think it’s time learn the change up. I got some zip on my ball and can locate pretty good. What should I do to make me a better pitcher and what’s your advice to have a great season and master the change up to my arsenal?

    Thank you

    Matt

Hi Matt – I assume this question and comment applies to you as a player, not as the coach or parent of a windmill pitcher. I am not a big fan of knuckle changes for 2 primary reasons: the grip is easily distinguishable from any other pitch, and the lack of spin enables the batter to recognize the pitch soon enough to adjust to the speed differential. The critical objective in mastering an effective change-up is to maintain the same body movement and hand speed as you would for your fast ball. There are several grips and releases that enable you to maximize the command of this pitch, but it would be too difficult to adequately explain them here. Keep an eye on the Fastpitch Power web site and within the next week or so, I will provide a video post to better demonstrate the various options for the development of an outstanding change-up. Thanks for the positive feedback.
